Vienna Dance Contest 2010
When: Saturday, 25 September 2010, 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (anticipated)
Where: "Haus Muskath", Liesinger Platz 3, 1230 Vienna
Getting there
Deadline for competition registrations is Saturday, 18 September 2010.
The Vienna Dance Contest is an Equality DanceSport Competition. That means a woman dances with a woman and a man dances with a man.
Equality dancing however means more: same-gender couples dance Latin and Standard choreographies whereby the classic role allocation of mixed couple competition dancing is suspended. Traditional elements are newly arranged and a multitude of new steps and figures is created. Additionally a special element is allowed and even admired – changing the role of leader and follower – role change.
For the winners of all categories a special trophy has been created – the famous Viennese snow dome: the Vienna Dance Contest Globe with gold, silver and bronze snow!
The Categories
Four categories will be carried out:
1. Standard (female couples and male couples separately)2. Latin (female couples and male couples separately)
3. Viennese Waltz Contest (VWC) (female couples and male couples together)
4. Cha Cha Fun Competition (anybody except A-class couples)
This year you will again have the possibility to show your mastery of the Viennese Waltz in two separate categories. This will also give those dancers a chance who have not practiced much! We invite you to join in to demonstrate and celebrate the wide spectrum of women and men dancers!
The Cha Cha Fun Dance motto is "Mix and have fun!" So mingle a little and dance with someone else for a change: visitors with competitors, Latin with Standard, B with starters, volunteers and guests, cashier with check-in, women couples with mixed couples (man-woman couples are allowed!), lesbians and gays with heteros ...
Registration for the Cha Cha Fun Competition is open to all competition visitors and dancers in the other three categories (except for A-class dancers) and is only possible at the door. Numbers will be assigned on an anonymous basis. There will be chances to warm up on the dance floor, so bring your dancing shoes with.
